Thanks to volunteers like Jonah Lyon, some special music is in the air at Botsford Hospital. A freshman at Catholic Central High School in Novi, Jonah chose to fulfill part of his school’s community service requirement by joining Music from the Heart, a program that recruits volunteers to share their musical talents with patients and visitors.
According to Cynthia Bonkowski, Botsford Volunteer Services manager, whether Jonah strums his guitar or tickles the ivories on the Cancer Center’s baby grand, his music has engaged patients and brought smiles to visitors and staff members alike. And since research shows that music may alleviate pain and reduce stress, the talented teen may even have helped improve patients’ health.
